Overview
Description
The electro-mechanical braking (EMB) system incorporates a smart wheel end actuator (WEA) that combines the actuator control unit (ACU), PMSM/BLDC motor, power conversion mechanism, transmission mechanism, and brake caliper into a single compact electro-mechanical subsystem. In response to parking brake requests or service braking commands, the actuator produces the necessary brake clamping force to achieve the desired braking torque.
The ACU is based on an MCU and integrates multiple ASIL-rated devices and MCAL software to support an ASIL-ready fail-safe architecture. Redundant communication interfaces improve functional safety and system availability, while integrated motor control enables precise brake actuation during both normal operation and fault conditions.
System Benefits:
- Supports ASIL D readiness with ASIL-compliant Renesas devices, MCAL software drivers, and implemented safety goals.
- Reduces platform redesign effort by supporting 12V, 24V, and 48V systems with a common gate driver and a common footprint for 40V, 60V, and 80V REXFET TSC/BSC packages.
