Scalable Medium-Graphics HMI Platform

Overview

Human machine interface (HMI) architectures are evolving from simple buttons and indicators to responsive graphical displays that combine visual, tactile, audible, and connected interactions within compact embedded systems. Used across appliances, building controls, industrial equipment, and other embedded applications, these interfaces must deliver intuitive operation while balancing display performance, system integration, and cost.

This scalable medium-graphics HMI platform supports a range of integration and connectivity requirements through multiple architecture options, including:

  • Integrated-touch design uses the main MCU's embedded Capacitive Touch Sensing Unit (CTSU), eliminating the need for a dedicated touch controller and reducing component count.
  • External-touch design pairs a dedicated touch MCU with a wireless-enabled HMI controller, enabling Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® Low Energy (LE) connectivity for connected HMI applications.

System Benefits:

  • Supports passive LCD and TFT LCD interfaces. The RA6M3 MCU includes an integrated Graphic LCD Controller (GLCDC) and optional external SDRAM support for TFT interfaces requiring additional graphics memory.
  • Offers multiple input methods, including capacitive touch keys, touch panels, rotary encoders, rotary selectors, and voice detection for intuitive user interaction.
  • Haptic feedback, audible alerts, and display backlight control provide clear tactile, audible, and visual feedback.
