Overview
Description
This onboard charger (OBC) design is built on a high-performance automotive MCU platform, leveraging proven control algorithms from micro-inverter applications. It combines a single-stage bidirectional AC/DC architecture with a dual active bridge (DAB) approach enabled by advanced GaN technology. The electrolytic-capacitor-free design enhances reliability, reduces cost, and improves both power density and system lifetime. Meanwhile, the DAB-based DC/DC stage ensures efficient soft switching across a wide voltage range, resulting in a compact, high-efficiency, and robust onboard charging platform optimized for next-generation electric vehicles.
System Benefits:
- Single‑stage architecture eliminates extra components, enabling a more compact and lightweight OBC design.
- Delivers over 96% efficiency—about 2% higher than conventional OBC topologies—reducing energy loss.
- Higher efficiency and reduced component count result in a smaller footprint, lower weight, and improved reliability.
