Overview

Description

Modern HVAC systems and white goods like refrigerators, washing machines, and ovens face increasing pressure to reduce AC/DC power consumption during standby. Energy regulations require standby currents of <5mW to qualify as zero standby power or ultra-low standby power, depending on the region. Devices left plugged in, even when inactive, can waste energy, raise utility costs, and fall short of eco-design compliance.

The Wi-Fi-connected switch mode power supply (SMPS) provides an energy-efficient platform for converting AC to DC power. It enables remote activation via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth® Low Energy (LE) while maintaining ultra-low or zero standby power consumption. The system is available in two variants, both featuring wireless connectivity and ultra-low standby power optimized for different use cases and application needs. Whether for zero-standby or cost-optimized systems, this SMPS architecture delivers scalable efficiency for next-generation smart home and IoT applications.

System Benefits:

  • Consolidated, regulatory-certified (FCC, IC, CE, etc.) connectivity system provides low-power Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE functionality.
  • Zero Standby Power Wi-Fi SMPS System:
    • Leverages a primary and secondary power supply to achieve zero standby power (2.1mW), ideal for any device or appliance left continuously connected to the AC mains.
    • Features innovative gate driving and EMI reduction technologies for very low EMI while simultaneously minimizing external components.
  • Ultra-Low Standby Power Wi-Fi SMPS System:
    • Leverages a single, primary power supply in a fully isolated system without requiring the use of an optocoupler, reducing cost while retaining ultra-low standby power and energy efficiency.
    • Includes built-in protection against over-temperature, overvoltage, and overcurrent conditions.
    • Incorporates EZ-EMI® design techniques to easily meet global EMI specifications.
