Description

This traction motor controller is designed for HEV/EV motor control applications and consists of two boards: a controller board that manages the motor driver and digital and analog sections, and a power board that integrates the power MOSFETs for motor drive. The controller board controls and drives each phase of the motor windings in the power board through the MOSFET pre-driver stage ISL78434.

The traction motor controller includes the RH850/C1M-A1 microcontroller, which is equipped with an RH850 Family G3MH CPU core operating at a frequency of 240MHz, providing high processing power. In addition to ROM, RAM, and DMA, it integrates a range of peripherals ideal for HEV/EV motor control applications, including motor control timers, multiple serial interfaces such as CAN (CAN FD–compatible), a 12‑bit analog‑to‑digital converter (ADC), an R/D converter (RDC3A) that converts resolver output signals into digital angle data, and a CPU and parallel motor control unit (EMU3).

The controller board has three ISL78434 MOSFET pre-driver stages and μPC1251A op amps for analog and fault generation circuits, power management integrated circuits (PMICs), low-dropout regulator (LDO), and a power MOSFET board with RBAZ25N10CHPF. The power will be 5KW continuous power and 8kW peak power. The number of MOSFETs per phase shall be defined accordingly to the necessary load dump protection.

Features

  • The MCU in the controller board interacts with external peripherals through system I/O connectors (COM, ANA, and DIO), which carry several communication interfaces, analog, and digital I/O signals
  • Includes Intelligent Power Devices (IPD) for additional loads
  • Implements protective functions for overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, and overtemperature (controller and motor)
  • Integrated interfaces such as CAN FD, LIN, SENT, isolated UART, etc.
