Description
The DA14583 integrated circuit has a fully integrated radio transceiver and baseband processor for Bluetooth® Low Energy. It can be used as a standalone application processor or as a data pump in hosted systems.
SmartBond™ DA14583 combines the benefits of the lowest power, smallest size and lowest system cost Bluetooth Low Energy System-on-Chip with an integrated flash. Furthermore, the DA14583 is pin-to-pin compatible with the DA14580 thereby offering a unique cost down path from Flash to One-Time-Programmable (OTP) memory.
The DA14583 supports a flexible memory architecture for storing Bluetooth profiles and custom application code, which can be updated over the air (OTA). The qualified Bluetooth Low Energy protocol stack is stored in a dedicated ROM. All software runs on the ARM® Cortex®-M0 processor via a simple scheduler.
The Bluetooth Low Energy firmware includes the L2CAP service layer protocols, Security Manager (SM), Attribute Protocol (ATT), the Generic Attribute Profile (GATT) and the Generic Access Profile (GAP). All profiles published by the Bluetooth SIG as well as custom profiles are supported. The transceiver interfaces directly to the antenna and is fully compliant with the Bluetooth 4.2 standard.
The DA14583 has dedicated hardware for the Link Layer implementation of Bluetooth Low Energy and interface controllers for enhanced connectivity capabilities.

- Application NotePDF 683 KB Oct 24, 2019AI-generated Summary: The DA1458x Bluetooth Direct Test Mode enables RF PHY testing through a UART interface with Bluetooth testers, supporting continuous Tx output, Rx testing, and packet error rate measurements. Setup involves configuring UART baud rates and using various testers such as R&S CBT, Anritsu MT8852B, and LitePoint IQ2010/2015. Production tests can be run via GUI tools like Connection Manager or CLI tools like prodtest.exe. The document details hardware connections, software setup, and test procedures for efficient Bluetooth RF testing.
- Application NotePDF 455 KB May 06, 2019AI-generated Summary: SmartSnippets Power Profiler requires calibration to improve power measurement accuracy for DA14580 Pro and Expert development kits. Calibration adjusts offset currents and multiplication factors to compensate for hardware variations in each kit. The process involves preparing the development kit by isolating power-consuming modules, configuring jumpers, and using a digital multimeter to measure current through specific pins. Calibration steps differ slightly between Pro and Expert kits but aim to provide precise energy consumption estimates for applications.
- Application NotePDF 1.17 MB Apr 03, 2019AI-generated Summary: Custom Bluetooth profiles can be implemented on the DA14580 by building on the sample128 service. This involves creating a project using the template_fh sample application, integrating the sample128 service source code, and configuring the project accordingly. The process includes creating and enabling the service database, implementing message handlers, and testing functionality. Modifications such as changing characteristic data sizes and adding new characteristics with GATT notify support are also covered. The guide assumes familiarity with Bluetooth Smart concepts, peripheral device roles, and the Keil µVision MDK IDE.
