Inductive Position Sensors

Renesas contactless position sensors are magnet-free, reducing material costs while providing immunity to magnetic stray fields. The sensing element is designed with low-cost PCB-based coils, simple metallic targets, and a single chip providing an output signal through analog and digital interfaces. This enables rotary on-axis (end-of-shaft) and off-axis (side-shaft or through-shaft) sensors, as well as linear and arc position sensors. Inductive position sensing works from small angles up to full 360°, either as absolute or incremental angle sensing. Inductive solutions fit a wide range of automotive and industrial applications, including low speed sensing, motor commutation, and industrial robotics—replacing magnetic and optical encoders.
