Renesasの同期FIFO製品は、ネットワーク、ビデオ、テレコム、LAN、データ通信など、大量のデータをバッファリングする必要があるアプリケーションに最適です。同期FIFOでは、クロックに基づいてリード/ライトの制御が行われます。また2つの固定フラグ(エンプティとフル)とプログラムが可能な2つのフラグ(オルモストエンプティとオルモストフル)を備えています。Renesasの同期FIFO製品では、デイジーチェーン方式によって深さを拡張することが可能です。
同期FIFOはデータバッファの一種で、入力された順にバイト単位のデータを出力します。コンピュータシステムにおいて、OSのアルゴリズムは、各プロセスに対するCPUの占有時間を、データを受信した順に応じてスケジューリングします。同期FIFOは、データをキューに格納し、シーケンシャルに出力します。
Renesasの同期FIFO製品は、多くの場合、CPUやその他のコンピュータハードウェアの同期の確立に使用されます。FIFOは一般的に読み出しポインタと書き込みポインタを備える循環キューとして実装されます。非同期FIFO は通常、非同期信号によって制御しますが、同期FIFOではリード/ライトにクロックを使用します。
