Description
The RTK0EF0201DK00001BU is a battery management system (BMS) reference design that implements a 3‑ to 5‑cell lithium‑ion (Li‑ion) battery monitoring and control solution based on Renesas' battery management system (R‑BMS).
The design is built around the RAA489255 battery manager integrated circuit (IC), which uses a 12‑bit analog‑to‑digital converter (ADC) to measure pack voltage, individual cell voltage, and temperature. It also supports pack current detection, high‑voltage general-purpose input/output (GPIOs), trigger input, and self‑diagnostic capabilities.
Renesas' R-BMS battery management solution combines the RAA489255 battery monitor with an RA Arm® Cortex®-M23 microcontroller (MCU) running the R‑BMS B firmware package. R-BMS B is a firmware solution for battery management ICs (BMICs) to enable key BMS functions without requiring firmware development. These functions include voltage and temperature protection, capacity estimation based on open-circuit voltage, system status monitoring, data logging, and SMBus communication for system control and diagnostics, with the source code available to allow for system integration.
