The camera solution kit for evaluation and development of software for viewing applications
The Renesas second-generation ADAS View Solution Kit allows evaluation of surround view and smart cameras for mirrorless vehicles and driver monitoring. Up to eight cameras can be connected for simultaneous evaluation and development. Sample applications and calibration software will be made available to start evaluation and development.
The ADAS View Solution Kit is an all-in-one solution using the Renesas R-Car Starter Kit Premier based on the Renesas R-Car H3 system-on-chip (SoC), a camera extension board and 1 Megapixel cameras connected via gigabit multimedia serial link (GMSL). The solution kit includes four cameras, however, an extension set with four additional cameras and cables can be ordered separately.
Up to eight minicube cameras from Integrated Micro-Electronics, Inc. using 1 Megapixel automotive sensors from OmniVision Technologies, Inc. are connected via a high-speed GMSL serializer and a quad deserializer from Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. on a miniature automotive chassis.
The R-Car H3 features Imagination Technologies’ PowerVR™ GX6650, a powerful graphics processing unit (GPU) core. It allows 360-degree surround view with arbitrary viewpoints and high-resolution picture composition, as well as highly detailed vehicle rendering.
The image rendering (IMR) technology enables low-cost surround view with pre-defined viewpoints, in case the GPU has to be used for other applications or if system architects want to evaluate how surround view can be implemented using low-cost SoCs. The IMR is also used for zooming and perspective adjustment for electronic mirrors or driver monitoring cameras.
Renesas’ video processing units in the R-Car H3 allow the composition of surround view with overlay of smart camera pictures at ultra-high definition resolution (UHD). The Arm® Cortex®-A57/A53 cores of the R-Car H3 provide 40,000 DMIPS enhanced processing for the application and computer vision implementations. In addition, OpenCL on the GPU provides software engineers the option to implement cognitive functionality, bringing additional safety features.
Renesas provides sample software for several applications. Dynamic surround view with arbitrary viewpoints can be achieved by using the GPU. Static surround view with fixed viewpoints is realized by Renesas’ IMR technology. The IMR is also used to demonstrate smart cameras for driver monitoring and mirror replacement. The solution kit further includes the calibration mechanism needed for the camera applications.
