Description

The Renesas Starter Kit for RL78/G14 is intended as a user-friendly introductory and evaluation tool for the RL78/G14 microcontroller. The board provides a useful platform for evaluating the Renesas suite of development tools for coding and debugging using CubeSuite+.

The purpose of the board is to enable the user to evaluate the capabilities of the device and its peripherals by giving the user a simple platform on which code can be run, only minutes after opening the box. It can also prove an invaluable tool in development by providing a useful test platform for code already debugged using one of our more powerful emulation tools.

Note: CubeSuite+ is not generally promoted to the U.S. and European customers. Customers in the U.S. and Europe who are interested in CubeSuite+ are requested to contact our regional marketing departments for details.

Features

  • Renesas microcontroller programming

AI-generated Summary: The document explains how to increase the effective resolution of an 8-bit DAC by using dithering techniques that modulate output between adjacent codes and smooth the signal with an RC low-pass filter. This method can achieve up to 12-bit resolution by repeating dither patterns over 16 cycles. It describes both open-loop and closed-loop control methods, with closed-loop using ADC feedback for improved accuracy. The RL78 MCU hardware resources such as DTC, ELC, timers, and ADC are utilized to automate dithering without CPU intervention.

AI-generated Summary: The RL78 MCU uses an 8-bit PWM dithering method to increase effective DC output resolution beyond 8 bits by modulating PWM duty cycles between adjacent values and filtering with an RC low-pass filter. This technique achieves nearly 12-bit resolution with faster response times than high-resolution PWM alone. The Data Transfer Control (DTC) automates duty cycle updates over 16 cycles, while closed-loop feedback with ADC monitoring improves DC accuracy. The method balances speed and precision for applications like LED lighting and analog control.

AI-generated Summary: The RL78/G14 Renesas Starter Kit sample code demonstrates how to open and manage projects using CS+ for CC-RL. It guides users through loading the RSKRL78G14_Tutorial.mtpj project file, navigating the project tree, and accessing source files grouped by type. Each sample project includes C source files, especially those prefixed with 'r_', generated by the Code Generator tool. The code serves as examples for peripheral initialization and can run on the appropriate RSK or be used independently. Renesas provides website and inquiry links for support.

AI-generated Summary: The tutorial guides users through importing the RL78/G14 sample project into the e2studio IDE using the RL78/G14 RSK. It explains how to start e2studio, import existing projects by navigating to the specified workspace directory, and ensure projects are copied into the workspace. After importing, the IDE loads the project for development. The instructions focus on project setup within the e2studio environment.
