Overview

Description

The demand for smart locks is a rapidly growing segment for the home and building automation industries. These locks need to be able to communicate with a smart home or building via fingerprint recognition and/or with a mobile phone using a common wireless communication protocol such as Bluetooth®, Wi-Fi, or near-field communication (NFC). The GreenPAK™ family of cost-effective NVM programmable devices provides features such as a motor driver and LED control. The high-performance, low pin count, 32-bit microcontroller (MCU) is available to design in a fingerprint module for algorithm support.

System Benefits:

  • Multiple wireless communication supported
    • Smallest and lowest power Bluetooth 5.1 system-on-chip (SoC)
    • Ultra-low power Wi-Fi SoC for battery-powered IoT devices
    • Highly integrated NFC reader IC
  • High-performance 120MHz low-pin MCU for fingerprint module
  • Programmable mixed-signal matrix enables innovators to integrate many system functions into a single custom circuit

A Modular Approach to Building a Smart Lock in Minutes

Using Renesas’ Quick Connect Platform, developers can build a rapid prototype that scales from a simple fingerprint-accessible lock to a Wi-Fi, and NFC-enabled door lock. By leveraging industry-standard interfaces, it’s seamless to mix and match processing, sensing, and connectivity products based on application needs. This video showcases how you can build a modular smart lock, with multiple ways to grant door access, in just minutes!
