Energy harvesting is an environmentally friendly, more efficient form of energy management that is often used to extend battery life and product reliability. It uses ambient energy, including light, heat, vibration, force, rotation, etc., available from the environment to power applications. If a product needs to operate without battery changes and it cannot be recharged using AC mains and primary batteries won't power the product for its lifetime, then energy harvesting is a good candidate for the design. Renesas' energy harvesting solutions include microcontrollers and other devices that are configured for energy harvesting applications.
