Overview

Description

RZ/N2L is an Ethernet communication microprocessor (MPU) that enables customers to easily implement industrial Ethernet and TSN in various IoT and industrial applications like drives, gateways, remote IO and more. RZ/N2L has functions such as an advanced 3-port Gigabit Ethernet switch with TSN, EtherCAT® slave controller, and supports major industrial Ethernet protocols such as EtherCAT, PROFINET RT/IRT, EtherNet/IP™, and OPC UA.

RZ/N2L is optimized for network companion chip use-cases. It easily connects to existing systems through its parallel or serial host interface without requirement of major changes. The real-time protocol is managed by its Arm® Cortex®-R52 core with a maximum operating frequency of 400MHz and large on-chip RAM with ECC, unloading the application CPU. Thanks to its rich peripheral functions such as PWM timer, delta-sigma (ΔΣ) interface, ADC, and more the device also realizes applications like remote I/O, sensor-hub systems, inverter and gateway as a single chip.

A rich software support package with peripheral drivers and many application examples enables rapid evaluation and prototyping.

  1. Strange Switch Functionality on RZ/N2L Boards

I am currently using the switch function of the RZ/N2L board. If I send Ethernet packets to the Rz/n2l board for one minute, the switch will periodically use the forwarding function. For example, Forwarding for 100ms and Not Forwarding for 100ms. If it is not forwarding ...

FAQs

  1. In what combinations can the three Ethernet ports of the RZ/N2L be used?

... for the RZ/N2L can be selected in the MODCTRL register. The following figure shows the available combinations. For details, refer to the following items. Table 26.4 MAC-PHY interface mode26.2.2 MODCTRL: Mode Control Register in RZ/N2L Group User’s Manual: Hardware (r01uh0955ej0110-rzn2l)

  3. I think the RZ/N2L can support three ports for EtherCAT, but are there any specifications such as which communication ports to use for IN/OUT?

Port 0 of the integrated EtherCAT controller is for IN, and the remaining ports are for OUT. Typically the ETH0 port of RZ/N2L corresponds to IN, but alternatively the ETH2 port of RZ/N2L may correspond to IN. The assignment is selected by the MODCTRL register.
