Industrial Ether Connectable IoT Sensor Hub

Overview

Description

This design showcases an easy-to-build industrial Ethernet-connectable sensor hub that utilizes Renesas' MPU and power products. The system efficiently collects data from sensors connected to the MPU and transmits it to programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and/or controllers that comply with specific industrial Ethernet protocols.

System Benefits:

  • Supports multiple industrial Ethernet protocols, including EtherCAT®, Ethernet/IP™, PROFINET®, Modbus TCP, and OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA), for seamless PLC and controller communication.
  • Sensors can be connected via several interfaces, such as CAN, RS-485, and I2C.
  • The MPU features dual CPU cores: Arm® Cortex®-A7 and Arm Cortex-M3, allowing for the implementation of communication software on the Arm Cortex-M3 core and application software on the Arm Cortex-A7 core separately.
  • The MPU includes features that help reduce the BOM and the size of the PCB.
