Description
The ZL8101 is a digital PWM controller with auto compensation that is designed to work with either the ZL1505 MOSFET driver IC, ISL6611 Phase Doubler IC, or DrMOS type devices. Current sharing allows multiple devices to be connected in parallel to source loads with very high current demands. Adaptive performance optimization algorithms improve power conversion efficiency across the entire load range. Zilker Labs Digital-DC™ technology enables a blend of power conversion performance and power management features. The ZL8101 is designed to be a flexible building block for DC power and can be easily adapted to designs ranging from a single-phase power supply operating from a 4. 5V input to a multi-phase supply operating from a 12V input. The ZL8101 eliminates the need for complicated power supply managers as well as numerous external discrete components. Most operating features can be configured by simple pin-strap/resistor selection or through the SMBus™ serial interface. The ZL8101 uses the PMBus™ protocol for communication with a host controller and the Digital-DC bus for communication between other Zilker Labs devices.

- Application NotePDF 1.43 MB an2010 May 01, 2018AI-generated Summary: The document details power dissipation characteristics and thermal guidelines for Digital-DC™ controllers with internal and external switches. It explains how power dissipation depends on gate drive current, switching frequency, and FET gate charge. It provides calculations for power dissipation in different scenarios and highlights the importance of managing package temperature via external drivers or reduced operating parameters. The thermal limits for components, including PCB materials and junction temperatures, are also specified.

- Application NotePDF 2.47 MB an1779 Jun 26, 2012AI-generated Summary: The document explains configuring current sharing on ZL6105 and ZL8101 devices, focusing on handling dropped phases and SYNC clock management. It details how the SYNC clock continues from a dropped member if still active, and how the reference phase is reassigned when dropped. The phase offset redistributes automatically among active members. It also covers NLR threshold scaling to adjust ripple thresholds based on active members. Multiple sharing groups using a common SYNC clock are described, with autonomous phase spreading within groups but not between them.

- Application NotePDF 1.9 MB an2033 Oct 13, 2008AI-generated Summary: The document details the Intersil PMBus command set for Digital-DC products, covering configuration, status, monitoring, identification, and supervisory commands. It includes guidelines for command usage, emphasizing disabling devices when changing settings except for specific commands. Timing recommendations for command sequences ensure proper device operation. Reference documents and forums for PMBus and SMBus standards are also provided.
- Application NotePDF 1.36 MB an2034 Jan 19, 2004AI-generated Summary: The document explains configuring current sharing on ZL2004 and ZL2006 devices, focusing on phase control in multi-phase converters. It details how to drop and add phases in a 3-phase group, redistributing phase offsets from 120° to 180° and back. It covers automatic phase offset distribution, SYNC clock configuration, and NLR threshold scaling based on active members. The INTERLEAVE command manages phase offsets between multiple sharing groups sharing the same SYNC clock.
- Application NotePDF 397 KB an1684 Jan 19, 2004AI-generated Summary: The document outlines important legal disclaimers and usage guidelines for semiconductor products. It emphasizes user responsibility for product design and safety, disclaims liability for damages, and clarifies no intellectual property licenses are granted. Products are categorized by quality grades with specific application recommendations. Users must comply with laws, avoid unauthorized modifications, and ensure safe use within specified conditions. Contact details for Renesas Electronics sales offices worldwide are provided.
- Application NotePDF 509 KB an1681 Jan 19, 2004AI-generated Summary: The document explains grounding techniques for PCB layouts using a dual op amp example on a single-layer copper board. It compares three grounding schemes: a center spine ground trace, an outer ground plane, and a split/star ground plane, highlighting the benefits of single-point grounding to minimize noise and antenna effects. It emphasizes following current paths, minimizing loop lengths, and ensuring close forward and return paths to reduce interference. The document also includes disclaimers on product use, quality grades, safety, and legal compliance.
