The Cool Phoenix 4 brings high-speed, cost-efficient Power Line Communication (PLC) to smart infrastructure systems. By transmitting data over existing power lines, it eliminates the need for separate cabling—saving time and reducing installation costs. Designed for point-to-point and star network configurations, this modem supports applications like HVAC, lighting, renewable energy, and smart city solutions. With turbo mode speeds up to 1 Mbps, extended cable runs over 1 km, and a complete suite of development tools, the Cool Phoenix 4 is your ideal solution for reliable, scalable PLC networks.

Introducing Renesas' OFDM based Powerline Communication platform, based on "Cool Phoenix" (uPD809504), an integrated 48-pin narrow band powerline communication modem IC. It contains a MAC controller as well as a high performance DSP for the PHY (physical layer) implementation. In combination with its integrated AFE (including an adaptive gain amplifier with AGC functions) and an AES128 hardware security engine it provides a high level of flexibility. Also of note are its unique low power consumption figures as well as its outstanding robustness. The hardware architecture and software framework allows flexible standards support. All lower layers are remotely programmable assuring upgradeability to future versions of existing and emerging standards. The solution will be delivered with fully certified, interoperable software libraries supporting PRIME as well as G3 standards.
