Biodiversity Conservation Activities
We know that biodiversity is an important concept that is necessary for a rich and healthy society, and we actively engage in activities that contribute to the conservation of biodiversity through our business activities.
Examples of Activities
Cultivation of Rosa multiflora var. adenochaeta, an endangered species
The Nishiki Factory in Kumamoto Prefecture are growing an endangered flower, which is also the town flower of Nishiki-cho, on its premises, with the aim of conserving biodiversity.
Creation of a Biotope
The Yamaguchi Factory in Yamaguchi Prefecture created a biotope on its premises in 2012. A biotope is the "smallest unit of the environment in which a variety of animals and plants live in natural conditions." While we are losing nature close to us, we aim to maintain and conserve such biotopes to restore small animals, small birds, and plants to conserve biodiversity. Killifish released in the biotope at the time of creation are still alive after many successive generations.

Forest Preservation Activities
We engage in forestry conservation activities, and in 2019 we achieved 44.08 tons of CO2 absorbed at the Kawajiri Factory in Kumamoto Prefecture.
Contributing to SDGs
Renesas’ efforts in Biodiversity Conservation Activities contributes to these Sustainable Development Goals targets:
12.4 By 2020, achieve the environmentally-sound management of chemicals and all wastes throughout their life cycle, in accordance with agreed international frameworks, and significantly reduce their release to air, water and soil in order to minimize their adverse impacts on human health and the environment
