Universe™ II VME to PCI Bridge

Universe™ II VME to PCI Bridge

The Universe™ II is the industry standard for VME to PCI bridging, offering a decoupled architecture with independent FIFOs for inbound, outbound, and DMA traffic. This design ensures maximum throughput without compromising bandwidth on either bus.

Key technical features include:

  • Zero-Wait State Implementation: Multi-beat transactions and bus parking for optimal PCI bus performance
  • Rich VME64 Interface: Full support for BLT and MBLT modes, interrupter, interrupt handler, and Linked-List DMA for flexible system interconnects
  • Comprehensive System Controller: Enables single-board computers to operate in any VME system slot
  • Standards Compliance: Fully compatible with VME64 and VME64 Extension standards, ensuring seamless integration into a wide range of applications

About VMEbus & VME64

About VMEbus & VME64

The VMEbus standard, including VME64, is a widely adopted computer bus originally developed for Motorola 68000 CPUs. It has since evolved to support broader applications and is standardized as ANSI/IEEE 1014-1987.

Key highlights include:

  • Physical Design: Based on Eurocard sizes, mechanicals, and connectors (DIN 41612)
  • Bus Evolution: From the original 16-bit bus to the current VME64, which supports 64-bit data transfers on 6U cards and 32-bit on 3U cards
  • Versatility: Used across industries for its robust design and scalability
