Description
The ISL12026 and the ISL12026A devices are micro power real time clocks with timing and crystal compensation, clock/calender, power-fail indicator, two periodic or polled alarms, intelligent battery backup switching, and integrated 512x8-bit EEPROM configured in 16 Bytes per page. The oscillator uses an external, low-cost 32. 768kHz crystal. The real time clock tracks time with separate registers for hours, minutes, and seconds. The device has calendar registers for date, month, year and day of the week. The calendar is accurate through 2099, with automatic leap year correction. The ISL12026 and ISL12026A have different types of Power Control Settings. The ISL12026 uses the Legacy Mode Setting, which follows conditions set in X1226 products. The ISL12026A uses the Standard Mode Setting. Please refer to Power Control Operation on page 13 for more details. Also, please refer to I2C Communications During Battery Backup on page 22 for important details.

- Application NotePDF 283 KB an1535 Dec 09, 2009AI-generated Summary: Renesas Electronics provides circuit and software descriptions for semiconductor product operation and application examples, but users assume full responsibility for their use. The company disclaims liability for damages from use, alteration, or reverse engineering. Products are classified as Standard or High Quality, with specific intended applications. Users must follow usage guidelines, safety measures, and comply with laws, including export controls and environmental regulations. Renesas does not guarantee radiation resistance unless specified. Contact sales offices for further information.
- Application NotePDF 302 KB an1549 Nov 03, 2007AI-generated Summary: Power issues in real-time clock (RTC) applications include voltage spikes during AC turn-on, power glitches, and low or no battery backup voltage. Adding a medium power Schottky diode at the RTC Vpp pin helps clamp voltage spikes. Battery backup maintains time during power loss but fast glitches can corrupt RAM. Circuit designs with resistors and MOSFETs prevent SRAM corruption during power-up. Proper filtering and power-up delays ensure reliable 12C communication and data integrity.
- Application NotePDF 2.06 MB an1325 Jan 19, 2004AI-generated Summary: This section explains the selection and use of bypass capacitors, detailing capacitor structure, dielectric materials, and their constants. It introduces an equivalent circuit model including ESR, ESL, and leakage resistance to represent capacitor losses. Common capacitor types and their trade-offs are summarized, highlighting ceramic capacitors as the most popular choice. It discusses ceramic capacitor classifications, package sizes, and their impact on parasitic inductance. Finally, it covers typical bypass capacitor sizing for handling different frequency ranges.
