Overview
Description
This demonstration kit for a 2-axis robot arm utilizes Renesas motor control solutions to achieve high-precision position control using resolvers and 2-phase stepping motors. The system is built around the RX72M high-performance 32-bit microcontroller (MCU) for numerical control and dual RX24T motor control MCUs, each dedicated to controlling one motor axis.
The robot arm supports smooth, continuous motion with trajectory control and achieves speeds of up to 250mm/s within a movable range of 150mm × 153mm, making it suitable for precision motion control demonstrations and development.
Features
- Numerical control (NC) is implemented using the RX72M MCU, while motor control for each axis is handled by an RX24T motor control MCU
- Arm trajectory control, also known as controlled path (CP) control, enables continuous operation along arbitrary paths at speeds up to 250mm/s within a 150mm × 153mm range of motion
- High position resolution using a resolver with 200,000P/R, enabling positioning accuracy of ±0.2mm
- Supports 2-phase stepping motors with resolver-based position feedback
- Sample software included for position, speed, and current vector control

The RENESAS + MinebeaMitsumi = 2Arms Demo features high precision and smooth position control from low speed to high speed (1 to 3000 rpm). This is a demonstration of a 2-axis robot arm using stepping motor with resolver, and was exhibited at MinebeaMitsumi's booth at International Robot Exhibition 2019.
