Overview

Description

This is a single port reference design for implementing battery systems with 2 to 7 cells connected in series. It supports two modes: one where power is supplied solely from the USB Type-C® port, and another that enables a power bank function in combination with a lithium-ion battery with a Battery Management System (BMS).

Due to losses in the cable, onboard charger, and board, the USB Power Delivery (USB PD) port manager compensates the USB Type-C input levels to achieve optimal battery charging operation. Switches on this evaluation board allow you to select the number of batteries in series and the charging current.

The firmware for this evaluation board is generated using an instruction tool called VIDWriter.

RTKA489EPRDE0010BU is the board included in the RTKA489EPRDK0010BU kit.
