Renesas USB Power Delivery Family - USB PD Controller (CXX Group) performs negotiation for more current and/or higher voltages over a USB cable which supports USB PD, and controls the power circuit between USB PD devices.

Renesas USB Power Delivery Family - USB Voltage Supply (U30 Group) is the power supply IC which output voltage can be controlled by C30 group.

The below indicates the means of Group Name.

  • "C"   : Power Delivery "C"ontroller
  • "U"   : "U"SB Voltage Supply
  • "13" : Based on USB Power Delivery Specification revision 1.0 (version 1.3)
  • "30" : Based on USB Power Delivery Specification revision 3.0

USB Power Delivery

The USB PD is a standard that increases the maximum DC power supply capacity of 7.5 W implemented by the earlier USB standards by a factor of 13 times, to 100 W (20 V at 5 A). With the rapid demand growth for devices using USB charging, the potential for sub-standard and non-compliant USB accessories (e.g., cables) entering the market increases substantially. The need for identifying non-compliant USB products becomes critically important, particularly for the high-power charging designs based on USB PD standards.

Renesas USB Power Delivery Solution

In the latest USB PD standard, in addition to the maximum 7.5 W (5 V at 1.5 A) of the earlier USB standard, this standard adds power rules based on 15 W (5 V at 3 A), 27 W (9 V at 3 A), 45 W (15 V at 3 A), 60 W (20 V at 3 A), and 100 W (20 V at 5 A) capacities. As a result, power supply designers are faced with challenges of supporting multiple voltage levels of the USB PD standards, output voltage switching, and handling large currents as up to 3 A.

USB Voltage Supply U30 Group (RAA230161) allows system manufacturers to quickly and easily implement safe and reliable power supply equipment that is based on the USB PD 2.0 and 3.0 standards.

Renesas also offers USB 3.0 compatible controllers and USB 2.0 hosts for embedded use.
