The iW709 integrates a USB Power Delivery (USB PD) 3.0 interface controller with a synchronous rectifier controller and USB Type-C disconnect FETs into one device for low total BOM cost USB PD chargers and travel adapters.
The device pairs with the iW9801 to create Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) power supplies for applications requiring up to 100W and the iW9809 to enable a two-chip solution for low total BOM cost USB PD applications to 65W.
The iW709 supports ZVS timing with adaptive synchronous rectifier control and drive for optimal efficiency, along with an intelligent low power mode to enable very low no-load power consumption when paired with the iW980x products. Fully digital voltage compensation eliminates the need for external passive components for loop compensation.
A full array of protection features includes overvoltage and overcurrent and over-temperature protection circuits. The OTP protection has two independent protection circuits, one working with an external NTC resistor and the second using an internal temperature sensor that can derate the output power to keep the charger or adapter from overheating.
