Software for Renesas' sub-GHz wireless communication solutions are implemented on the Renesas RX651 microcontroller + RAA604S00 set or on the RL78/G1H microcontroller and it realizes the wireless communication protocol of Wi-SUN profile based on the international standard IEEE802.15.4. The Wi-SUN Alliance, which is a standardization organization, has conducted an interoperability test and our solution has passed this test. In addition, since it is used as Wi-SUN Alliance certification standard parts, you can carry out system design for a wireless network with peace of mind.

RF Driver

The RF driver is a program that controls the RF transceiver and offers a PHY layer-level API (tables 1 & 2). It carries out 50 or 100 kbps GFSK-modulated wireless communications in the IEEE802.15.4g wireless frame format. It also provides functions such as carrier sensing, which detects surrounding wireless conditions to avoid collision with transmissions from other wireless stations.

This RF driver is not OS-dependent, and can be adapted to a variety of systems. However, a transmission control function for the user's application must be implemented in order to obtain technical standard conformity certification and construction design certification for wireless equipment under the Japan Radio Law. Transmission control stipulated by the ARIB STD-T108 standard for 920 MHz wireless equipment used in Japan is also implemented. For example for ARIB STD-T108, for a carrier sensing time of 128 microseconds and 20 mW output or less, the maximum total transmission time is 360 seconds per hour. This solution satisfies this condition by keeping track of accumulated transmission time and controlling transmission accordingly.

Simple MAC : Serial command sample application

This product (Tables 1 & 2) includes a sample application that can send and receive broadcast and unicast frames by setting the MAC address. It is possible to construct simple 1 to N network communication by using the sample application and RF driver.

IP Stack - Wi-SUN FAN -

Wi-SUN FAN is a communication protocol that realizes wide-range area/long-distance communication by suppressing interference and collisions, and features multi-hop and mesh network.

Wi-SUN FAN is expected overseas as a wireless network not only smart meters but also smart cities / smart grids represented by infrastructure management such as logistics / building automation, smart street lights, parking systems, traffic management, etc. Among LPWA (Low Power Wide Area), Wi-SUN FAN is a communication system with multi-hop (multi-stage relay) and mesh function, and realizes stable and robust communication connection covering long distance communication and dead zone.

If you want to use a Wi-SUN FAN stack, it must pass the certification test for interconnectivity established by the Wi-SUN Alliance, and this can take a long time after development for certification. Renesas' Wi-SUN FAN stack has already passed the Wi-SUN Alliance interconnection test and is Wi-SUN FAN certified. Also, Tessera Technology's evaluation board and Renesas' Wi-SUN FAN stack can also be used as Wi-SUN Alliance certification standard parts (TBU: Test Bed Unit), so you can design your wireless network system with confidence.

Renesas' Wi-SUN FAN stack supports IP-based features such as 6LoWPAN, IPv6, ICMPv6, RPL, and UDP which are required for Wi-SUN FAN. Also, the security authentication supports IEEE802.1X authentication and EAP-TLS-based access control which are used in wireless LANs.
