The Renesas Promotional Kit (RPB) for RX62N has been designed to enable the user to quickly investigate the performance of the RX62N device family. Based on an embedded web server, a number of mini demonstration applications can be used to showcase the Ethernet controller, USB function and Floating Point Unit (FPU) found on the RX62N. Further investigation of the device and available RX development tools can be completed using the on-board Segger J-Link JTAG debugger and High-performance Embedded Workshop (HEW) IDE.

The board is pre-programmed with self-installing drivers and a demonstration website showing the capabilities of the RX/600 CPU. Connection is simple, the user connects the Ethernet cable to their Hub (or direct to the laptop or PC), connects via USB to a spare port on their PC or laptop.

The setup procedure enables the user to connect with the board using a normal web browser. Once connected the user can see a number of demos including some basic functions:

  • Control the on-board LEDs from the browser
  • Measure performance of the device

Plus more advanced functions using a VNC client (e.g. the one at

  • Human Machine Interface Device (mouse) demo using on-board joystick (SW2) and buttons
  • Dhrystone benchmark demo
  • Bouncing ball demo (FPU ball vs. non-FPU ball)
  • Mandelbrot demo*
  • Pong! game demo

* : This demo features the ability to explore the Mandelbrot Set, named after the late Dr. Benoît Mandelbrot, and first visualized by Brooks and Matelski in 1978. The fractal boundary of the Set obeys the equation: zn+1 = zn2 + c.
