New Low-Power Audio Solutions Provide Improved Performance and Design Flexibility
October 6, 2008
SAN JOSE, Calif., October 6, 2008 – IDT® (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; NASDAQ: IDTI), a leading provider of essential mixed signal semiconductor solutions that enrich the digital media experience, today announced a new series of high-definition audio codecs that provide improved audio performance and fidelity, and design flexibility for multimedia notebooks and enterprise desktops. T
IDT customers can now provide their customers with improved audio experiences and power optimization, while achieving best possible time-to-market and improved bill of materials – all with the design flexibility offered by an integrated single-chip solution and the smallest footprint available for an audio codec.
The first two devices in this series, available today, are Class A/B devices designed for achieving top-quality audio performance. The IDT 92HD81 device is a four-channel single-chip audio system featuring dynamic thermal management, which is ideal for cost-sensitive notebooks, netbooks, mobile Internet devices (MIDs), and ultra mobile PCs (UMPCs). It includes a temperature sensor that gradually lowers the volume of the device if the temperature increases beyond specification limits and gradually brings the volume back to normal as the device cools - unlike traditional thermal protection which stops the audio playback. The IDT 92HD83 device is a six-channel version featuring the industry’s first integrated dual capless headphone amplifiers, making it an essential solution for the high-end multi-media notebook market requiring 5.1 surround audio and providing the option of connecting multiple users to the end device, such as two employees listening to a Webinar on a single notebook or desktop.
This new series of IDT audio codecs and related software, fully support the Intel low power ECR15B initiative providing maximum battery life by automatically entering a low power mode with no audio activity, resuming within 10 m-sec of audio starting, effectively reducing pops and clicks to an inaudible level. Additionally, the devices can support a 1.5V to 1.8V or 3.3V nominal digital supply and either a 3.3V or 5V nominal analog supply.
As with all members of the IDT PC audio codec family, the new devices also include the proprietary IDT HD sound graphical user interface (GUI) that enables customers to provide end users with maximum, yet easy-to-use, control of a PC audio system through complete audio software customization. The HD sound GUI provides intuitive initial individual set-up, input/output audio jack configurability, and allows end users to dynamically adjust their audio experience based on application, environment and content. As a result, IDT PC audio solutions enable OEM customers to maximize battery life, offer advanced usage models for PC audio, and provide their end customers the ability to personally manage the quality of their audio experience, and achieve high-levels of overall audio fidelity, compatible with the most stringent WLP fidelity requirements.
Pricing and Availability
The IDT 92HD81 and 92HD83 are currently sampling in the 48-pad RoHS QFN (quad flat no-lead) package. Prices are listed at $2.13 and $2.21 respectively for 10,000 units. For additional product information on IDT PC audio solutions visit www.idt.com/go/audio.
