Visit Booth #926 to Learn About Renesas’ Cutting-Edge Motor Control Solutions for Drones, Mobile Devices, and Industrial Applications

March 27, 2017

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 27, 2017— Renesas Electronics America Inc., a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, today announced it will showcase several of its analog and power technologies, including motor control solutions, at the 2017 IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), March 26-30, taking place at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Florida.

The motor control solutions include an integrated motor drive solution board for optimized motor efficiency and minimum heating, as well as a micro-motor solution board that enables a small brushless DC (BLDC) electric motor for optimal low-rotation-per-minute (RPM), position-critical applications, and high RPM performance.

In today’s competitive landscape, motor control applications such as power tools, appliances, drones, and robotics must achieve breakthrough levels of optimization and performance to meet and adapt to changing application requirements. This creates a greater need for highly efficient motor control solutions.

In booth #926 at APEC, Renesas will showcase and demonstrate motor control solutions that address this need, accelerating the performance of motor-driven power applications.

Exhibitor Presentation

Tad Keeley, Senior Manager for Analog and Power Product Marketing, Renesas Electronics America, will highlight several new integrated devices from Renesas, designed for controlling and driving motors, in his presentation, “Simplifying Li-ion Battery Powered BLDC Motor Driver Design”.

When: Tuesday, March 28, from 1:30 PM–2:00 PM ET

Where: Room 25 (Tampa Convention Center)

Renesas Motor Control Demonstrations at APEC

Integrated Motor Drive Solution Board:

The Renesas Motor Drive Solution Board is a single system-on-chip (SoC) that combines a microcontroller (MCU), analog front end, and customized firmware to drive a motor with optimized efficiency and minimum heating. This integrated motor drive solution can control and drive motors with power levels to 1500 watts.

Micro-Motor Solution Board:

Small BLDC motors need very accurate position control over a wide operating range to provide both high torque and very low RPM functionality (like a stepper motor) as well as smooth, high-RPM performance. The Renesas Micro-Motor Solution showcases the use of an SoC that combines an MCU and a digital signal processor (DSP) to enable a small BLDC to provide both optimal low-RPM, position-critical applications where engineers have traditionally used a stepper motor, and also provide the high RPM performance of a BLDC.
