SANTA CLARA, Calif., September 12, 2012 — Renesas Electronics announced today that Dean Kamen will be a guest speaker at the Renesas DevCon on Wednesday October 24, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency in Orange County.

Well known for creating the Segway, Kamen has also invented many groundbreaking medical devices from portable dialysis machines to a motorized wheelchair that can climb stairs. In 1989, Dean Kamen established the nonprofit FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science & Technology). His passion and determination to help young people discover the excitement and rewards of science and technology are the cornerstones of FIRST. At the Renesas DevCon, Kamen will share his experiences to inspire the engineering community to apply their skills to improve our world.

"As inventors and engineers, we have a unique opportunity to not only develop products, but to help improve the quality of life for all people," said Dean Kamen. "Renesas has a vision for improving the world through technology that I think will help to inspire a new generation choose engineering as a profession, and I’m looking forward to being a part of DevCon."

"We’re thrilled to have Dean join us at DevCon to share his experiences with our customers and partners," said Peter Carbone, Vice President Marketing, Renesas Electronics America. "We believe that students relate to engineering lessons that offer solutions for the problems of today or tomorrow and expect this will be the first step of a long-term engagement with Dean and the FIRST organization. Along with FIRST, we’re committed to grooming the engineers who will deliver on the promise of the Smart Society."
