Renesas offers directly modulated laser (DML) and vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) drivers for optical networking applications, as well as LDDs for RGB scanning laser projection systems and laser-based pico projectors.

Renesas' DML driver arrays are designed specifically for distributed feedback (DFB) laser diode applications. The portfolio includes single-channel and quad-channel solutions for distances of 100s of meters to 10km, including CWDM4, PSM4, CLR4, and PAM4. The DML drivers support the client side with bit rates up to 28.05Gbps and are integrated into QSFP or other form factors.

Renesas' VCSEL drivers are designed for Ethernet and other short-reach applications. Renesas' VCSEL driver portfolio of single and multi-channel devices provides customers with a high-performance, high-data-rate, low-power, and low-emissions solution for the datacenter and consumer space. Renesas' VCSEL drivers and TIA+PA receiver arrays enable chip-to-chip, board-to-board, and system-to-system optical interconnects, removing the constraints of copper cabling and enabling the realization of higher data rates with significantly less EMI and power consumption.

Additionally, LDD technology has evolved from driving DVD/CD/Blue-ray optical drives to include laser projection in smartphones, automotive head-up displays (HUDs) and pico projectors. Renesas has developed new LDDs for RGB scanning laser projection systems and laser-based pico projectors. Automotive HUDs are benefiting from big innovations in MEMS projection systems and are now central to advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and safety. The latest laser scanned-MEMS projection systems can provide higher resolution images and at a lower cost.
