Overview

Description

The Automotive High Definition Link (AHL) platform comes with two evaluation boards (EVB). One is an AHL transmitter with integrated AHL encoder (RAA279971), HDMI input connector and camera module interface that offers users a high degree of flexibility to test a variety of video sources and resolutions. The other board is an AHL receiver that includes an integrated decoder (RAA279972), an LCD video processor (RAA278842) and LVDS output interface to display images on an included 10” LCD screen.

The AHL evaluation board platform combines hardware, firmware and software to give the users easy access for quick evaluation of the RAA279971 AHL encoder and RAA279972 AHL decoder. The platform also includes pre-programmed RAA279971 chip register settings to convert the digital input video content into an analog AHL signal. The video is transmitted across a twisted pair cable to the RAA279972 AHL decoder evaluation board which receives the analog signal, converts it back to a digital signal and displays the image on the LCD panel. The AHL EVB platform supports 720p/30Hz, 720p/60Hz and 1080p/30Hz; for non-standard resolutions, the registers must be manually adjusted through the GUI terminal interface tool which is provided with the evaluation boards.

The RAA279971 is a high-definition analog video encoder that is designed for automotive applications. It accepts digital video inputs using a 2-lane MIPI-CSI2, digital video port (DVP) or a pseudo BT.656 parallel interface and supports multiple high-definition resolutions up to 720p/60 or 1080p/30. The RAA279971 uses a built-in 10-bit video DAC that encodes the incoming video stream into an analog composite format that is transmitted to a RAA279972 decoder as a single-ended or differential signal over coax or twisted pair cables.
