Dusseldorf, July 1, 2014 — Renesas Electronics Europe, a premier provider of advanced semiconductor solutions, today extends their new innovative RX ecosystem support programme for European customers whilst adding Express Logic as a new solution partner.

Customers are invited to submit their designs to Renesas to qualify for free-of-charge commercial software up to the value of 20,000 euros. Renesas has teamed up with selected Alliance partners since February 2013 to provide wide range of software tools and libraries tailored to RX microcontroller family to help accelerate time-to-market for RX customers, while driving innovation in their design. The support program has been extended until February 2015.

The latest partner to join this RX ecosystem promotion program is the well-known RTOS and middleware supplier, Express Logic. With its ThreadX® operating system and stacks such as USBX™ and NetX™, and various other middleware packages, Express Logic products are popular in the market.

“Express Logic is honoured to be invited to participate in the Renesas RX ecosystem support programme in Europe,” confirmed William E. Lamie, President and CEO of Express Logic, Inc. “Our ThreadX RTOS and middleware fully support the RX product family, providing superior time to market for demanding electronic applications in medical, industrial, and consumer products in Europe and around the world. Now, Renesas customers can take advantage of the RX ecosystem support programme and gain access to these leading RTOS products free-of-charge.”

“We are glad to team up with Express Logic as a new software alliance partner for this innovative ecosystem support program,” said Bernd Westhoff, RX Product Manager at Renesas Electronics Europe. “ThreadX and its integrated middleware offers an extensive range of well accepted software components and stacks. The Express Logic software solutions, combined with the widely scalable 32-bit RX MCU platform, creates an ideal base for any customer application.”

Renesas’ 32-bit RX microcontroller platform offers customers a broad product spectrum, with 8kB-4MB on-chip flash memory and 8kB-512kB on-chip SRAM in 36-177 pin packages. Maximum compatibility across the range is guaranteed by a common core, common IP and common development tools. This innovative support programme delivers maximum value across the RX MCU family, providing qualifying customers with free development boards and free market-leading software. Customers also benefit from the huge RX ecosystem backed by an online community of developers and the industry’s largest Alliance Partner and local support networks.

"The 32-bit RX MCU family is supported by a vast online infrastructure of freely available sample code, but many customers prefer to use a commercial solution in their design,” said Bernd Westhoff, RX Product Manager at Renesas Electronics Europe. “To lower the entry threshold for a 32-bit RX design and to help customers get their products to market faster, we have initiated this innovative support programme in cooperation with selected Alliance Partners. It enables customers to have the best of both worlds – the peace of mind that comes from using established commercial software, and its provision free of charge. For Renesas and its partners, this is a big investment that will immediately benefit our joint customers.”

In partnership with industry leading software alliance partners like Segger, Micrium, port GmbH, TMG, HCC Embedded, Wittenstein, and Express Logic, the programme supports a wide range of middleware, including operating systems, TCP/IP, USB, CANopen, Profinet, EtherCat and Powerlink stacks. In addition, FAT file systems and graphical user interface packages, as well as an IAR compiler licence are available as part of the program. Qualified RX customers will be able to access these commercial software packages free of charge.

Interested customers are invited to contact their local Renesas sales office or distribution partners to find out how they can qualify for this innovation support programme or could register by themselves online via www.renesas/rxmax.
