DevCon Program Offers Interactive Sessions, Labs and Product Demonstrations

August 19, 2010

SANTA CLARA, Calif., August 19, 2010 -- Renesas Electronics has published the schedule for its 2010 Developers' Conference (DevCon) being held in Orange County, California, October 11-14. The four-day technology event offers hands-on labs and lectures led by embedded systems experts from Renesas Electronics and its technology partners, as well as panel discussions and product demonstrations. Guest speaker, James B. Meigs, editor-in-chief of Popular Mechanics, will explore in his presentation, "The Coming Age of Ubiquitous Information," how emerging technologies will continue to change daily life - from crash-proof cars to a crash-proof smart power grid.

Offering 120 sessions spanning the embedded technology spectrum, topics include automotive, motor control, human machine interface (HMI), computer architectures, operating systems, connectivity, security and emerging display technologies. These technical deep-dives will provide system designers with practical information for implementation in their real-world engineering projects. Complete program details can be found at http://www.renesasdevcon.com/media/DevCon_2010_Sessions.pdf.

About Guest Speaker, James B. Meigs

As editor-in-chief of Popular Mechanics, James B. Meigs is a leading authority on how technological changes affect life. He has expanded the magazine's coverage of alternative energy, national defense, digital privacy concerns, and other issues rooted in science and engineering, and aims to give readers the skills and confidence to make the most out of technology in their personal lives.

Meigs' topic will cover the turning point society is reaching - the rise of fourth-generation networks; inexpensive microcontrollers (MCUs); global positioning systems (GPSs); cloud-based data storage; and fast, cheap data processing - which means that people today have access to more knowledge and have control over more aspects of their environments than was ever dreamed possible in previous generations. The next decade will see an exponential growth in the power of technologies as they are increasingly linked in global networks, and Meigs will explore how these technologies will change daily life.

About the Renesas Electronics DevCon

Hosted by the world's largest MCU supplier (as a result of the merger between Renesas Technology and NEC Electronics in April 2010), the Renesas Electronics DevCon offers an education and networking forum for designers working with embedded systems. The event provides direct access to the company's recent embedded technology advancements, featuring MCUs, microprocessors, SoCs and display technologies, among others, and provides attendees the opportunity to connect with Renesas Electronics technology experts and valued partners from around the world for interactive discussions and information exchanges.

In addition, attendees can sync up with Renesas Electronics and its participating partners during "Meet the Experts" sessions for personalized discussions on a variety of embedded topics. Several of the company's embedded solutions also will be on display in the DevCon exhibit hall, featuring more than 75 demonstrations and exclusive tool and development kit offers.

Unique to developer conferences is Renesas Electronics' "concierge service" approach for the attendees. To maximize attendees' participation at the event, each attendee will be assigned a Renesas Electronics technical staff member who will assist with personalizing the event for the guests such as a customized program based on the attendee's interests, one-on-one meetings with engineers and/or executives to review design activities, a personalized schedule for session and lab attendance, pre-event coordination, post-event follow-up, and the assurance of having a Renesas Electronics staff member available during the event for assistance.
