Renesas Takes over Leadership in the Americas Market with 24 Percent Share
Santa Clara, Calif., May 6, 2013 – It’s official. Renesas Electronics America, a leading supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, has taken the lead as the top microcontroller (MCU) supplier in the Americas. According to an IHS iSuppli 2012 Semiconductor Market Shares Report released this year, Renesas Electronics leapfrogged the competition to win 24 percent share in the Americas market. Already the worldwide MCU leader, this win solidifies the company’s role as the top MCU supplier in the Americas for the first time.
The latest ranking from IHS highlights Renesas’ commitment to delivering ground-breaking, low-power MCU solutions that enable emerging applications within the Smart Society, including smart homes and buildings, mobile healthcare and connected cars that offer increased intelligence, energy savings, safety and enhanced user experience.
“We’ve always been number one in the world, but it’s a thrill and a testament to our hard work and solid customer relationships to be named the MCU market leader in the competitive Americas market,” said Peter Carbone, Vice President of Marketing, Renesas Electronics America. “Being recognized as a leader, not only globally but also in the Americas, shows that Renesas is succeeding in providing leading MCU solutions, engineering expertise and leading technology advantages for key markets.”
Renesas’ long-term strategic investments in the Americas ecosystem also play a key role in the company’s continuing market success, building strong third-party partnerships, distributors, universities and online services.
“The embedded ecosystem is becoming more complex, and we are seeing that design success is more than achieving the lowest power levels or the highest performance. Emerging applications, such as connected devices for smart homes or mobile healthcare, and building automation, require MCUs with a combination of optimized power, performance and price, as well as the flexibility to accommodate changing device needs easily and cost effectively,” said Tom Hackenberg, principal analyst for microcontrollers and digital signal processors, at IHS.
Renesas Electronics provides a comprehensive lineup of MCUs, ranging from the RL78 Family of ultra low power 8- and 16-bit devices to the RX Family of MCUs, which offer excellent high-performance/low-power balances for applications that require the increased MCU memory, performance and peripherals of a 32-bit MCU.
Renesas Electronics America will continue to develop industry-leading, low-power smart solutions across all platforms to provide tools to enable a smarter society.
