Description

The RAA2S4704 is part of Renesas’ family of mixed-signal sensor ICs, designed for high-performance applications. It derives capacitance and conductance information from measured impedance, allowing for accurate assessments across a wide frequency range. This flexibility enables the measurement of both in-phase and quadrature-phase sensor components, tailored to specific environmental and application conditions.

The device features a configurable measurement scheme that maximizes the measurement rate based on the connected sensor or source. Measurements can be initiated on demand, using a predefined set of configurations. The acquired IQ data is transmitted via an SPI interface.

The RAA2S4704 offers excellent electromagnetic compatibility and a range of diagnostic features, making it ideal for demanding automotive environments. Its sensor inputs are protected against short circuits and designed to withstand overvoltage conditions typical in automotive applications.

Features

  • Provides data for impedance calculation, with measurements proportional to the in-phase and quadrature-phase components of impedance across up to seven measurement channels (SIO)
  • All seven channels are equivalent; a maximum of three channels can be activated simultaneously
  • Adjustable measurement frequency ranges from 50kHz to 150kHz
  • Equipped with both internal and external temperature sensors
  • Offers up to 16 flexible measurement schemes, including options for SIO input, gain, averaging, and excitation frequency
  • Ten scalable measurement ranges, accommodating capacitances up to 3200pF
  • High linearity with accuracy up to ±1.5% FS, including temperature compensation (TC)
  • Sensitivity of up to 5fF/LSB without averaging
  • Supports 3.3V and 5V power supplies, along with a power-saving mode
  • Robust input channels capable of withstanding over-voltage up to 18V (max. 1hr lifetime)
  • Complies with ISO 26262:2018 ASIL-B requirements for sensor and self-supervision
  • Background data acquisition enables self-supervision and sensor diagnostics
  • Features an internal RC oscillator with the option for an external clock input
  • NVM for IC calibration and traceability data
  • Ambient temperature range between -40 °C and 105 °C
  • AEC-Q100 qualified QFN24 package
