YRPBRX62N (For RX62N)

The Renesas Promotional Kit (RPB) for RX62N has been designed to enable the user to quickly investigate the performance of the RX62N device family.
Based on an embedded web server, a number of mini demonstration applications can be used to showcase the Ethernet controller, USB function and Floating Point Unit (FPU) found on the RX62N. Further investigation of the device and available RX development tools can be completed using the on-board Segger J-Link JTAG debugger and High-performance Embedded Workshop (HEW) IDE.

Features

The board is pre-programmed with self-installing drivers and a demonstration website showing the capabilities of the RX/600 CPU. Connection is simple, the user connects the Ethernet cable to their Hub (or direct to the laptop or PC), connects via USB to a spare port on their PC or laptop.


The setup procedure enables the user to connect with the board using a normal web browser. Once connected the user can see a number of demos including some basic functions:

 

  • Control the on-board LEDs from the browser
  • Measure performance of the device

 

Plus more advanced functions using a VNC client (e.g. the one at www.realvnc.com)

 

  • Human Machine Interface Device (mouse) demo using on-board joystick (SW2) and buttons

* : This demo features the ability to explore the Mandelbrot Set, named after the late Dr. Benoît Mandelbrot, and first visualized by Brooks and Matelski in 1978.

Running the Demo

This requires the user to connect to the RPB via the supplied Ethernet cable and via a USB connection, this is fairly straightforward but can be dependent upon the User's network settings. The Quick Start Guide is designed to cater for the most common settings but it is not possible to cover all possibilities in the Guide without making it overly complicated!

 

Here are some hints and tips when running the Demo:

 

  • The full Quick Start Guide can be found on the CD, the one on the back of the pack is relevant if you know you have DHCP and .NET installed only.
  • The CD has a .NET web installer executable in the Root folder
    • Installation requires an Internet connection
  • The Demo is not guaranteed to work under Win7, however the development tools supplied (Evaluation RX compiler and HEW IDE) are Win7 compatible.
  • Connecting the RPB to your network, then to your PC via USB may result in an easier connection than connecting directly to your PC's Ethernet port as many companies have protection software installed on their PCs which may make such connections difficult.
  • When connecting the Ethernet cable, you should see LEDs flashing on the Ethernet socket AND also the FDUPLEX and SPEED LEDs
    • If there is no activity, check the Ethernet cable connection, nothe that if using a different cable than the one supplied the RPB can connect with either a 1:1 or crossover

     

Troubleshooting

  1. CD does not work automatically - Use Windows Explorer to browse the CD and run setup.exe
  2. Cannot connect to the Demo (page not found error)
    • Check the ethernet connection, are the LEDs on the ethernet connector and the FDUPLEX and SPEED LEDs illuminated? If not puch connector in or change Ethernet cable.
    • Check the IP address is correct (use the "Launch Broswer" button on the Viewer application to start the demo).
    • If connecting directly to the board from the PC's ethernet port, check you have correctly set up the PC's IO address, Subnet mask and Gateway, not the info above on this page about the displayed advised IP address being incorrect.
    • Check your machine's firewall and other protection software to see that access to the board is not being blocked (you may need to contact your company's IT department).

    • Check that you have installed a valid VNC client and that it is configured according to the instructions.
    • If you have used the Human Machine Interface Device (HID) demo, make sure you switch it off before proceeding to the other demos
  4. I have reprogrammed the board but want to reinstate the demo
    • Just create a Tutorial Project in the High-performance Embedded Workshop, build and download it to the board. The Tutorial project is in fact the demo project. See Quick Start Guide for details.
  5. I cannot build the Tutorial project
    • Check the the compiler Evaluation License has not expired (the status can be seen either in the Output pane of the HEW Window, or you can view the license status in Help > Technical Support > License Management > [Report]).

  7. I lost my cables, can I use any USB or ethernet cable?
    • Yes
  8. I am using Japanese language Windows and the installer does not work.
    • The installer is designed for the European and North American markets, Japanese language support was not included due to the restricted space availability on the mini-CD. We are looking to include Japanese support at version 3, due January 2011.
