Visit Booth #412 and Explore Renesas Technologies for Industrial, Healthcare, Automation, and Wearable Applications

October 24, 2016

SANTA CLARA, Calif., October 17, 2016 – Renesas Electronics America Inc., a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, will explore embedded design innovation that is breaking down barriers for companies to bring their next connected devices from “big ideas” to the real world at ARM® TechCon™ October 25-27, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California.

Throughout the event, Renesas will spotlight these solutions in booth #412. The team will also host a series of classroom sessions on October 26 in Grand Ballroom B. The sessions will cover topics ranging from vision-based design to how to secure cloud-based applications, including a hands-on cloud connectivity lab with the Renesas IoT Fast Prototyping Kit.

Technology Demonstrations

Advances in security and cloud-based technologies, and changes in the way users are interacting with their connected devices are creating new opportunities and challenges for the Internet of Things (IoT). At booth #412, Renesas Electronics America will share insights with designers and developers working on connected devices for areas like healthcare, industrial, smart appliances, smart lighting, and wearables, including:

Security – Highlighting real-time data communications for the industrial IoT, securing manufacturing and firmware updates with the Renesas Synergy™ Platform, as well as an end-to-end IoT solution designed to prevent, identify, and enable management of security events.

Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and Machine Vision – Highlighting facial detection and image identification technologies that enable safety, security, and personalization, as well as enhanced product differentiation through HMI for touch screen-based applications

Innovation in Healthcare – Highlighting the Synergy Platform as an end-to-end springboard for designers building healthcare applications like fitness trackers, and personal medication adherence devices, as well as solutions that enable real-time data management and processing for healthcare applications, such as monitoring patient vitals.

End-to-End IoT Prototyping – Highlighting the Renesas IoT Sandbox and Smart Paper Dispenser example to demonstrate how to leverage Big Data and a cloud-based environment to enable quick and easy IoT prototyping

Renesas will also spotlight a technology preview of the ARM v8-M technology for secure IoT applications, highlighting the integration of the newly announced ARM v8-M cores with TrustZone® on an FGPA target running ThreadX® RTOS.

In addition, Renesas will feature the world’s first ARM Cortex® A9-based ARM mbed™-enabled development platform (Renesas GR-PEACH with built-in RZ/A1H microprocessor (MPU)) in the booth. The mbed board is now available with mbed OS 5.x, as well as a Cloud-connect solution to connect to the mbed Device Connector. The power of an ARM Cortex-A9 in the mbed device allows for complex processing at the edge.

Technology Insights

Brian Davis, Vice President of Marketing, Synergy IoT Business Division, will join ARM Vice President of Marketing and Strategy Nandan Nayampally Wednesday, October 26, 3:30 p.m. PDT on the panel, “Making it Easier to Create Secure IoT Systems – A Semiconductor Industry Perspective.” The panel will address the steps being taken to simplify security in MCUs, while retaining the benefits of efficiency, ease of programming and diversity of solutions.

Jason Chien, Product Marketing Manager, will address “How to Build Products that People Want” in his technical session on October 27, 2:30 p.m. PDT. In this session, he will discuss the platform-based approach using ARM mbed running on an ARM Cortex® to abstract lower-level work so developers can focus on building better products.

Renesas is also hosting a series of technology training classes on Wednesday, October 26, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Grand Ballroom B, including:

  • How to Get Started with the Cloud Lab*
  • Building a Robust Security Foundation for your Medical Device
  • Enabling Platform Security with Ecosystems
  • Putting Eyes and ARMS on Machines
  • Industrial IoT Security – Strategies for Enabling Security for IIoT Endpoints
