Company Sets New Performance-Per-Watt Bar; Broadens IDT Leadership in PCIe Switching
May 14, 2007

SAN JOSE, Calif., – May 14, 2007 – IDT(Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; NASDAQ: IDTI), a leading provider of essential mixed-signal semiconductor solutions that enrich the digital media experience, today announced the industry’s first PCI Express® (PCIe®) switching solutions that meet the PCI Special Interest Group (PCI-SIG) PCI Express Base 2.0 specification, commonly referred to as PCIe Gen2.
Optimized to solve system I/O connectivity challenges, the two new IDT switches set a new standard for performance-per-watt in PCI Express switches and offer customers a critical upgrade path and protection of infrastructure investment for next generation servers and storage systems.
The new devices enable the cost-effective development of new systems by doubling the throughput bandwidth of existing PCIe lanes to 5 gigabits per second of data transfer allowing a 50 percent reduction in the number of PCIe lanes and board traces necessary to support link throughput requirements. This simplified board layout reduces system design and manufacturing costs while speeding time to market. The initial IDT PCIe Gen2 offering consists of two switches, a 12-lane, 3-port switch and a 16-lane, 4-port switch. The switches provide 12 and 16 gigabytes per second of total switching bandwidth, are PCIe 2.0 compliant and offer optimized power consumption to reduce total cost of ownership and reduce thermal design complexity.
“We’ve worked closely with our top-tier system OEM partners to ensure our family of PCIe Gen2 switching solutions sets new standards in performance-per-watt to meet critical data throughput and power consumption requirements in their enterprise and data center applications,” said Mario Montana, vice president and general manager of the IDT Serial Switching Division. “IDT is pleased to lead the transition to PCIe Gen2 connectivity for next generation server platforms by introducing our first PCIe Gen2 switches. We will continue to aggressively work toward offering our customer partners the same comprehensive set of lane and port configurations in our PCIe Gen2 devices as those found in our broad family of PCIe Gen1 devices.”
"Intel has been a long-time proponent of standards-based serial switching because it leads to broader, more cost-effective adoption of the latest technology." said Jim Pappas, Director of Technology Initiatives, Intel Corporation at Intel. "IDT's delivery of PCI Express Generation 2 enabled products will help drive the industry's transition to the faster speeds that Gen2 provides to compute platforms."
Each of the new devices has a dedicated evaluation and development kit for device testing and analysis, and system emulation. Each kit consists of a hardware evaluation board with representative upstream and downstream connectivity, and an IDT-developed, GUI-based software environment that enables the designer to tune system and device configurations to meet system requirements.
Moreover, to ensure that each OEM system design is optimized for production and meets its time to market objectives, IDT provides customers with extensive, collaborative technical support including system modeling and signal integrity analyses, and schematic and layout review services.
The new devices will be available for sampling in the third calendar quarter of 2007. For additional information, including pricing and specific sampling schedule, visit
PCI Express Seminar
On Wednesday May 23rd IDT will be hosting a PCI Express technology seminar sponsored by Agilent and LeCroy. The seminar is targeted at system designers, architects, and hardware and software engineers looking for the latest information on PCI Express system designs or solutions. The seminar, which will be held at IDT corporate headquarters in San Jose, CA, is no charge to attendees, but registration is required. For additional information, or to register for the seminar visit
