Overview
Renesas has introduced the SH-Mobile (SuperH Mobile Application Processor); designed to offload application processing from the baseband LSI, this is a solution to ease system development and realise significant performance improvement.
SH-Mobile enables separation of the application software and communications protocol software developments. This baseband independent approach reduces time-to-market, and allows rapid evolution of multimedia applications whilst retaining investment in established communications protocol software.
The SH3-DSP core can accomplish multimedia processing supporting standards
such as JPEG, MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 (MP3), and MPEG-4. Using the DSP
instructions of the SH3-DSP, an average performance increase of 200% can be
achieved for most middleware. This reduces CPU speed requirements and in turn
power consumption.
