Introduction
Rensas offers a range of licenses suitable for a variety of business needs.
A customer planning to license a CPU will typically have a contract containing the following items:
- Up front licensing fee for the IP (CPU core, interconnect other peripherals)
- Royalty payments paid on fixed cost per unit or as a percentage of the SoC selling price
- Maintenance for CPU core
- Software development tools and maintenance
- Development boards
- Design services
Renesas does not publish a price list for its CPU licenses as each license is subject to customer specific negotiations based on a combination of the above items. For more details please contact info-superh-core@renesas.com.
CPU core licensing options:
There are a range of CPU licensing options, typically a limited or full license will deliver lower per-unit-royalties in return for a higher upfront license fee.
- SuperH CPU Per-Design-License (PDL) license
This license is a for a single SuperH core in a single SoC product. The license costs include an upfront license fee, royalties and maintenance payments which vary depending on the CPU core. Licensees can upgrade to a limited or full license. - SuperH CPU limited license or 'multi-PDL' license
This license has been designed to deliver a cost effective route to licensing a single CPU core for a family of products or a family of CPU cores. The license may be defined for a specific number of products, a specific market or over a specific time for example. - SuperH CPU full license
This license gives unlimited use to a specific family e.g. all uses of the SH-4 family. - SuperH agency license for 'One-stop-shop' SoC design services
This license is a new route to market for companies wishing to subcontract the development of all, or part of, their SoC device(s). An Agency has a SuperH CPU license and is able to deliver a complete design and licensing service to a customer combining SuperH IP, Agency IP, 3rd party IP and customer IP in to an SoC design. The Agency takes care of licensing and royalty payments. This capability enables companies to:- Have developed an SoC to their own specification without committing their own design resources.
- Sub-contract part of their SoC design
- Sub-contract porting of kernels and application software
- Sub-contract development of application software
