Ultra-Small High-Efficiency Digital Amplifier
Amplifier for flat-panel TVs and similar applications has industry's-smallest package for a 15W + 15W output: 6mm x 6mm.

The R2A15106NP is an analog-input type digital amplifier as second-generation digital amplifier for products such as LCD and Plasma TVs, small active speakers for portable audio players. It promotes slim and compact design for all of audiovisual products by Ultra-small package and High-efficiency and better sound quality. It has 15W+15W output power and Ultra-small, 6mm-square thin package -- the smallest in the industry for this amount of output power. It uses a single power supply and incorporates optimized peripheral functions, too. These design techniques reduce the package's pin count to only 20, less than half the 52 of the previous model.

The dual-channel amplifier produces high-quality audio. Output noise level is 100µVrms or less for no signal and an IHF-A curve filter. Total harmonic distortion is approximately 0.1 percent for a 1W output and a 20KHz-low-pass filter. A proprietary circuit eliminates the "pop noise" that would otherwise occur when the power is turned on or off.

Diodes with Lead-Free Glass Body
Switching and zener diodes are first in the industry to eliminate lead from the glass package

By using a lead-free glass material, Renesas has produced the industry's first glass-encased diodes in packages that contain no lead. The new packaging technology allows glass-bodied products to comply with the RoHS-directive environmental regulations. It will be adopted as the standard package for our future glass-encased diodes.

Samples of three switching diodes and a zener diode in lead-free glass packages will be available from July 2006. The four devices are listed below:

  • Switching diodes: 1SS83-G-E (body size: 4.2 x 2.0mm; Renesas package code: DHD), 1SS119-G-E (body size: 2.4 x 2.0mm; Renesas package code: MHD), and 1N4148-G-E (export model; body size: 4.2 x 2.0mm; Renesas package code: DHD)
  • Zener diode: HZK15-G-E (body size: 3.5 x 1.35mm; Renesas package code: LLD)

Echo ICs for Karaoke Equipment
By incorporating twice the amount of memory, the sound-effect devices deliver better audio quality

The R2A15106SP and R2A15107SP single-chip echo ICs are aimed at Karaoke machines, Karaoke-capable DVD players, and similar audio-visual devices. the R2A15106SP featuring 44Kbit echo RAM capacity -- twice that of previous Renesas Technology's products -- and the R2A15107SP that also includes a scoring function.

In response to the market demand for storing echo voice signals has been increased to 44Kbits. Moreover both ICs built-in peripheral functions such as MIC-Volume, ALC, echo-Volume, IIC-bus interface, etc. Especially the R2A15107SP has the same proprietary algorithm as our M65851FP single-chip Karaoke processor. A common circuit board can be used for both ICs because they have compatible pin layouts basically.

High-performance SiGe MMIC
Dual-band device uses about 40-percent less board space than separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz MMICs

The HA31010 power amplifier for transmission power amplification in wireless LAN terminals supports dual-band operation at 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Thus, this high-performance SiGe MMIC has a mounting footprint approximately 40 percent smaller than if existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz Renesas SiGe MMICs were used. For the 2.4GHz band, its power gain is 28dB and current consumption is 130mA. For the 5GHz band, it achieves a 24dB power gain and consumes 160mA.

The MMIC uses a SiGe-CMOS process to implement an internal MOSFET switching circuit. As a result, the amplifier circuit can switch between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and between transmit and receive without requiring an external switching device, allowing circuit simplification. The HA31010 IC also helps decrease system power consumption in standby mode, consuming only 0.1µA or less.

Address Driver for Plasma Display Panels
Chip built with a fine-pitch 0.35µm SOI process achieves a fast 60MHz data transfer and a high withstand voltage of 85V with low EMI noise

The fastest data transfer speed in the industry, a high withstand voltage, and low EMI noise characterize the Renesas HC12502, a 192-output address driver for use with plasma display panels (PDPs). This advanced IC consists of two sections: a CMOS logic section with a 5V power supply, and a high-withstand-voltage (maximum rating = 85 V) driver section. In an industry-first, the CMOS logic section uses a fine-pitch, 0.35µm SOI process for the address driver. This enables it to transfer serial data at 60MHz, a fast speed that supports the trend to higher resolutions as PDPs move from WVGA to full HD operation.

The 85V maximum rating of the HC12502's outputs is sufficient for driving higher-intensity PDPs that produce brighter images. Also, the slew rate of those outputs is kept constant, eliminating sudden rises and falls and thereby reducing the generation of EMI noise.
