Electronic Scale

Overvie

Electronic scales are widely used in kitchens and as bathrooms because they can quickly make accurate weight measurements. They sense the weight of an object using a bridge-type distortion gauge consisting of a load cell attached to a metal plate. Because the output voltage of this sensor is very small, the signal is amplified by an op-amp and input to the A/D converter built into the MCU in the system circuitry.

Renesas Electronics offers a lineup of MCU products suitable for small, lightweight electronic scales, including the chips in the H8/38086R Group, which have a built-in high-precision 14-bit ΔΣ-type A/D converter. Among our other solutions for such scales are the MCUs in the 78K0/Lx3 and the R8C/Lx Series, which provide an on-chip LCD drive-control circuit.
