Overview
An alarm unit receives commands from an alarm control panel and activates the alarm. In addition to the generation of sound, light, and signals, alarm units are also required to be tamper proof. They require interfaces to signals to detect any attempts to disable the alarm, such as an A/D converter or external interrupts. It is also necessary to send the status of the alarm back to the alarm control panel.
Renesas' range of 8/16-bit microcontrollers that include a siren generation function and the functions necessary for the above operations is ideally suited for these applications.
