Electronic Thermometer

Overview

Electronic thermometers are now used in more and more households. They must be compact, lightweight, consume little power and provide extended battery life. Consumers also require a quick response time for reading and accurate measurement. When measuring body temperature, a double integral A/D converter circuit is used to achieve precise measurements of small voltage fluctuations. Electronic thermometers also need LCD functionality to display the measurement data, a buzzer for audible notification when a measurement is complete, and flash ROM for storing sensor trimming data.

Renesas’ 78K0/Lx3 and the R8C/Lx Series of MCUs integrate on-chip a double integral A/D converter, EEPROM data flash and an LCD drive control circuit. They are also available in low-pin-count versions, making them ideal for use in compact and lightweight electronic thermometer applications.
