Overview
For kitchen appliances, like multi compartmental refrigerators, which are in constant operation, there is an increasing demand for eco-friendly electric home appliances which reduce the overall required power consumption. Additionally there is a demand for more efficient motors which, as well as consuming less power, are more compact allowing the design of more internal storage space and electrically quieter to provide lower noise operation for use in the home. Sensor-less control is required as the motor is located inside the refrigerator’s compressor. Therefore a sensor-less brushless motor with inverter control is commonly used in refrigeration applications.
The MCU lineup of Renesas includes the RL78/G14 Group, which is suitable for inverter control in refrigerator applications. Their on-chip features allow the design of efficient motor drive solutions which allow refrigerators to be made more eco-friendly. For refrigerator system control, the RX630 Series is ideal an ideal product family in that it incorporates a variety of A/D converters to allow precise control of the internal temperature. In addition, the R8C/33T MCU is designed to implement a touch panel solution which allows the appliance manufacturer to provide flat panel interfaces free of protrusions or indentations, thus improving cleaning and maintenance.
