Inverter Fluorescent Lamp

Overview

In contrast to the conventional glow starter florescent lamps, inverter fluorescent lamps employ inverter technology which boost the switching frequency to more than 10,000 times per second, thus making a glow starter unnecessary. They also eliminate flicker and unpleasant buzzing while consuming 20% to 30% less power, thus making them more eco-friendly than the conventional lamp type. In addition, the inverter circuit can be used to adjust the light level. This is suitable for high-grade lighting fixtures and provides additional value. Recently, DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) systems employing multiple lamps have been developed.

Renesas product lineup includes the R8C Family of 8/16-bit MCUs with on-chip PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) generation and output functions. In particular, the 78K0 Series and the R8C/2x Series of MCUs integrate dimmer inverter control, PFC (Power Factor Correction) on/off control, and DALI communication functions, and are ideal for inverter fluorescent lamp applications such as ceiling-recessed fixtures that are compact and lightweight while consuming little power.
