Overview
Digital SLR (single-lens reflex) cameras are enjoying a rapidly expanding popularity among consumers. Equipped with a wide variety of photographic functions, they provide richer visual expressiveness and higher pixel counts than compact digital cameras. Digital SLR cameras require multiple MCUs to implement functions such as image processing, flash control, motor control, remote control support, flash memory control for image recording, and the USB interface. Performance requirements are constantly escalating.
The Renesas lineup includes the CB-40 Series for image processing engines, the 78K0/Lx3 Series, SH Series, and others for operation controllers, the R8C/Lx Series for LCD, standard R8SX and the V850ES/Jx3-L MCUs for lens controllers, and the R8C/3x Series for touch panel controllers. Other devices developed specifically for use in digital cameras include motor drivers, thyristors for flash units, and IGBTs. These components are excellent solutions for developers of digital SLR cameras.
