Overview
CEC functionality provides control of AV equipments using the HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) standard. The increasing availability of digital services and digital media content has seen a rapid increase in new AV equipments, including digital TV and HDTV, Personal Video recorders incorporating hard disk drives and Blu-Ray players. The majority of new digital AV equipment now includes interconnectivity, such as linked or collective control functions. It has become the norm to include link functions designed to reduce power consumption (eco-friendly functions).
Renesas offers the 78K0/78K0R-C Series, the R8C Family of MCUs, which implement CEC transmit/receive circuit functions in software and the M16C/65 Group of MCUs, which integrate transmit/receive circuits in hardware. Renesas also supplies sample software for this functionality, enabling customers to easily design CEC into their end equipment.
