Overview
Vehicles today are using more electronics to cope with the diversifying requirements of drivers and passengers and to address concerns about the environment and fuel consumption. Multiple electronic control units (ECU) are connected by multiple in-vehicle LANs differing in transmission speed and communication protocol according to the features and characteristics required for each application, exchanging information and coordinating control to allow more added value functions to be implemented. Renesas has comprehensive know-how and a successful track record in all applications, from control systems to information systems, and meets the needs of our customers with our wide-ranging product lineup.
V850E2/Sx4-H Microcontroller with MOST and Ethernet Support for Car Multimedia Applications
MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport) is a bus standard for vehicle multimedia networks capable of transferring high-quality audio and video data, packet data, real-time control commands, and other signals at a maximum of 150 megabits per second. Its specifications are established by the MOST Cooperation, which is comprised of major carmakers and manufacturers of automotive electrical system components. MOST makes playback of high-quality music and video, packet data transfer of traffic information, and lightening of vehicle weight possible. Nowadays, it is used as the communication backbone of car infotainment systems in more than a hundred types of vehicles.
Ethernet is prominent as a diagnostic protocol for electronic control units (ECUs) connected to a network. Data communication with devices outside the vehicle during diagnostics and software updating is possible.
The V850E2/Sx4-H microcontroller supports MOST and Ethernet, and achieves multimedia data processing and system control for car audio, tuners, amps, and other units on a single chip.
